LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition

The quest is on again to find Australia's top culinary talent, with entries now open for the 2010 LifeStyle FOOD Channel Australian Regional Culinary Competition

Founded in 1997, this is the only competition of its kind, aiming to recognise, develop and promote professional cookery by attracting teams from all over Australia. Held as a major part of Tasting Australia the event offers chefs and apprentices a chance to compete against each other under the watchful eyes of some of our greatest chefs, restaurateurs and wine experts, who make up our panel of judges.LifeStyle FOOD Channel is again naming rights sponsor of this prestigious competition. Their support of this event since 1999 has been instrumental to its continuing success.

2010 will see the competition taking a new direction with up to 32 teams battling it out to create three-course meals using regional protein items, produce from the Adelaide Central Market, general kitchen food items provided by Regency International Centre and a selection of mystery ingredients that will be revealed to the competitors shortly before the competition starts.

Culinary professionals are invited to battle for the top culinary honours including:

Gold Award Best Region
A 12-day culinary tour through one of the last remaining kingdoms in the world, Cambodia. Your host for this culinary tour will be well known Chef and Western Australian food ambassador Don Hancey. Don captained the winning team from Margaret River at the
inaugural Australian Regional Culinary Competition in 1997. He is an aficionado of the culinary magic of Cambodia. Highlights include a sunset champagne Mekong River cruise, a traditional Khmer cooking class, shopping at the Russian Markets, visits to exotic spice and food markets, and tastings of the fabled Cambodian green peppercorns, classed as the finest in the world.
The fabulous Temples of Angkor Wat will be explored, along with the Royal Palace, National Museum, and a climb to the top of Wat Phnom Temple. There will be plenty of free time to explore the many wonderful French colonial bars and restaurants that line the banks of the mighty Mekong River. The team will also be welcomed to dine and share hospitality knowledge at the Paul Dubrule Hotel School in Siem Reap, a contemporary college that welcomes Western influences as an adjunct to their hospitality training. In Phnom Penh the team will prepare a cocktail style event, Taste of Australia featuring a wide array of premium Australian regional foods and wines.
